Not an expense but an investment

Funding arts and culture is often seen as an expense. What if we saw it as an investment instead? At QWB Lab our vision is to shift perceptions from ‘funding arts and culture’ to ‘investing in the community’.

This film about a library in Ōtautahi Christchurch demonstrates that libraries are so much more than books. Just looking at the conversation with the family in the video, we detect value in eight of the 12 dimensions of wellbeing: Subjective Wellbeing, Social Connections, Civic Engagement, Safety & Security, Knowledge & Skills, Housing, Income & Consumption, and Environment & Sustainability. How many can you find?

The biggest value of all is what the mother says about her 6-year-old daughter: “What she gets out of this space is priceless.”
