Income: How a library enabled a start-up's rapid prototyping

This is part of our series of case studies or examples how a culture organisation contributes to one of the 12 dimensions of wellbeing from QWB Lab's Wellbeing Framework.

In our framework we describe the dimension of Income broadly as "Contributing to the local economy, people’s income or offering free experiences for the community; consumption in a sustainable manner. Appropriate stewardship and governance of resources."

This video from Tūranga, the main Christchurch City Library, is a wonderful example for the rich value the library offers its community. So much more than books!

In this case helping a start-up with rapid prototyping with the library's laser cutter. The ability to quickly adapt a design allowed the aerospace engineer to trial new iterations, test and refine ideas in a short timeframe. A few years on, these unique, unmanned aircraft, which began as an idea, are performing high level earth observation from the stratosphere.
